Flames roundly beat-up at ES, but Kipper pulls out the win. I think this was Rene Bourque's worst game of the season by this metric.

Quick Note...

...I'm appearing on CBC.ca today to chat about the Flames. The chat will start at 12pm (MT) and should last about an hour.

I'm sure the mood will be a cheery one.

With the play-offs on the line, playing one of the worst teams in the league on the second night of a B2B, the Flames putative best player was on the ice for zero ES scoring chances for.

These boys are done.

“Vesa is more than capable of doing it,” Sutter said. “Was he as sharp as he would have liked to be tonight? No he wasn’t.

“That being said, we’re still going to need him down the stretch here.”

Brent, you have all of 10 games left this season. You're about a 17% chance of making the post-season and your back-up goalie has been one of the worst puck stoppers in the entire league over the last 3 seasons.

Stop being ridiculous.

A bit of reversal from last game, with the big boys getting things done and the bottom-end skaters getting killed. The Flames were ahead in terms of possession all night, but had a hard time converting zone time into real scoring chances for a large measure of the evening.

This was a strange one. Both teams spent portions of the game dominating the other. The biggest swing came in the second, when the Flames went on a long run culminating in their third goal. After that, the Avs took over.

Calgary won the overall chance count, but were nominally behind at ES. That said, they were owed one by the Hockey Gods considering many of the other matches versus the Avs this year.
