Best game of the year in terms of denying quality chances and shutting down the opposition in the third period. The Flames outchanced the Preds 7-1 in the finla frame, despite entering the period ahead and taking spending more time on the PK. That's the kind of performance I envisioned when Sutter was hired in the off-season.

The chance count slid downhill for the Flames in the second when Huselius and Nash started to overwhelm the Flames. Calgary managed to claw back during the final 10 minutes of third however, when the Blue Jackets shell failed to deter anything. This was also the second straight game where the opposition's PP put them well ahead of the Flames in terms of overall differential. That's something that will eventually bite Calgary in the ass if it continues indefinitely.

As you can see, the Flames were fortunate to escape this game with a win, let alone with a shut-out. DET spent a lot of time at the right end of the ice, but nothing would go in. Two of the Flames three tallies were pretty lucky as well.

As a Flames fan, I'll take it. that said, it's disconcerting to see the club get outplayed by a DET lacking a whole bunch of regulars. Still not quite there, Darryl.

An 8-0 second period put the Flames well ahead in this one. The Coyotes had a nice run to start the game, but didn't do much otherwise.

A solid effort by the Flames, despite the chance numbers. The second period where the Ducks enjoyed multiple consecutive PP's put them over the top. Calgary was equal at ES, but largely because of a two minute stretch in the first where Getzlaf et al victimized Iginla, Jokinen and Lundmark for three straight chances.

Calgary had a huge third period in terms of possession and corsi, but it didn't result in a ton of scoring chances - lots of blocked shots and point shots. The Ducks also had a bang-bang play which resulted in a shot/rebound, basically evening things up in that period.
