Everything is Right with the World

As everyone knows it's been a huge week for the Flames. First off, we got Craig Conroy back into the fold, and not only did everyone in Calgary lose their minds with delight, he even scored two goals against his former team; the purple wearing royalty from SoCal.

In the same game, Kipper played some of the best hockey of the season, and kept the Flames in it when they really shouldn't have been. Huse and Alex have continued to play their best hockey in years, and both are riding multiple game point streaks. With all that going on, the biggest story of the week is about to take place tomorrow night.

I am, of course, referring to the probable return of the man, the myth, the legend; Jarome Iginla. The Flames Captain is scheduled to return against the pesky Columbus Ugly-Uniforms, and should he do so (as my title suggests) everything will be right with the world.

With Jarome back in the line up, Connie back in the fold, and several key guys playing their best hockey of the year, I would like to point out the massive opportunity sitting right in front of us. We have a chance to caplitalize on some fantastic play, a big trade, and a HUGE return. Mark my words folks, should the Flames strike while the iron is hot, this week will mark the beginning(s) of our playoff run. The time is right for us to gel together, use the enthusiasm in the community, and get back to when we used really put the fear of God in the opponents.

When Calgary plays with energy and confidence, they simply do not lose more than three games in seven. Huse and Alex (suggested nickname for when the play together is definitely HA!) are moving the puck around so well, that everyone who plays with them is finding themselves on the happy side of the scoresheet. Might Mikka is bailing us out when we have the occasional mind-fart in our end, and seems more determined since he donned the new mask. You add to that the energy of Iggy’s return from injury, Connie’s return from Hollywood, and you have got yourselves a pretty potent mix if you ask me. Since you’re still reading this, I will take that as a silent acknowledgement that you are.

Now you’re probably thinking that I might be one of those bandwagon jumpers that thinks with Craig back, we are going to party like it’s 2004. Well, if you think that, you’re a boob, because I am not. What I'm saying is that we have a clear cut opportunity to jump on some fantastic timing. If we can indeed capitalize on this, I want to be on record as pointing out this was the turning point . I honestly, truly believe that when we play our best hockey, there isn’t a team out there that can beat us 4 out of seven games. Coincidentally, we seem to play our best hockey when we have the aforementioned energy and confidence.

If we can capitalize on this well timed momentum and carry it through to the playoffs, don’t be surprised to see us hosting a big-ass punch bowl come Springtime.

That’s right, Stanely Cup Champions.

I said it, and I couldn’t take it back even if I wanted to. Which I don’t.
